Letter dated 12th September 1813 From Lieut WILLIAMS commander of HMS Cutter Nimble, at the entrance of Biddasoa river North coast of Spain to his brother in the town (Liverpool) Mr M WILLIAMS 12 King street If anyone has any family connection to the above I'll type out the whole letter and send by e-mail

"Samuel GRIFFITHS tea dealer, no 5 Pool lane, begs leave most respectfully to return his sincere thanks to his friends and the public for the very liberal encouragement he has received since his commencement in business: and begs leave to inform them that he has just received a choice assortment of TEAS bought at the East India Cpmpany's June sale, on very advantageous terms"...(there is more to this if anyone has family connection or interest)

Thomas HALLOWES Begs respectfully to inform the Merchants and Brokers, that he will warehouse any quantity of goods that may be engaged this month on the following terms-

SUGAR &c. per large cask , 1s for a month or 2s three months

COFFEE &c. the same or 2s 6d for six months

RUM, 1s for a month: 2s three months: 3s six months or 5s for twelve months

Old family recipe

"A substitute for BARM- which has been used by the family of Mr J H ABRAHAM of this town upwards of two years:

Take two ounces of hops and boil them in one gallon of water for half an hour, then strain the liquor from them, and add half a pound of wheat flour to it: bottle it off and it will be ready for use in four or five days---take for every stone of flour one pound of potatoes, boil and crush them very fine and strain them through a hair sieve, then add to every pound of potatoes half a pint of the liquor, mix these together, and with warm water mix it with the flour in the same manner as using Ale Barm

NB shake shake the bottle before you pour any liquor out for use. Bread made with the above will be sweeter and lighter than that made with Ale Barm
